In alignment with COVID-19 preparedness, the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo (RRC) closed all RRC operated facilities to the public effective March 14, 2020. This includes the operation of MacDonald Island Park, the Anzac Recreation Centre presented by CNOOC, and the Conklin Multiplex.

Please know that these proactive and preventative measures were put into place to ensure the safety of all community members who gather, play & connect in RRC facilities. As this is an ongoing and ever-changing situation, we’ll be monitoring and adjusting our plans accordingly. We recognize this closure directly affected our patrons and that you will have many questions regarding your membership, programs and events.

Q: When will all RRC facilities be re-opened to the public?

A:  The Government of Alberta announced on June 9, 2020, that Stage 2 of Alberta’s Relaunch Strategy will begin on Friday, June 12. It was also announced that several business sectors which were originally included in Stage 3 have been moved into Stage 2 and can now consider re-opening with restrictions in place, this includes indoor recreation facilities.
Following the announcement, the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo (RRC) released an Relaunch Strategy, stating that we will be moving ahead with a phased plan for re-opening public recreation facilities in Wood Buffalo. The RRC’s phased plan, beginning June 19 includes re-opening amenities at MacDonald Island Park (MIP) and Anzac Recreation Centre presented by CNOOC. Further information on the re-opening plan for Conklin Multiplex and the Sonny Flett Aquatic Centre will be forthcoming. 

Q: Which RRC facilities were closed to the public?

A: All RRC-operated facilities including MacDonald Island Park, Anzac Recreation Centre, Conklin Multiplex and Sonny Flett Aquatic Centre.

Q: Why were RRC facilities closed to the public?

A: For the safety of our staff, members, and guests we closed all RRC facilities due to the recommendations from Alberta Health Services to avoid large gatherings in dealing with the COVID-19 outbreak.

Q: How will this affect my RRC memberships?

A: All memberships including annual, corporate, continuous, monthly and punch pass holders, were put on hold effective March 14 including monthly payments. Q: Can I cancel my RRC membership?

A: If you have any questions or concerns regarding cancelling please contact MacDonald Island Park Guest Services at 780-791-0070, Anzac Recreation Centre Guest Services at 780-793-6900, and Conklin Multiplex Guest Services 780-793-6970.

Q: Myself or my child are registered for programming, how will we be compensated for this?

A: All program participants who were registered in active programs will receive a prorated credit onto their account for the remaining classes. Refunds can be requested through MacDonald Island Park Guest Services at 780-791-0070, Anzac Recreation Centre Guest Services at 780-793-6900, and Conklin Multiplex Guest Services 780-793-6970 in the form of a cheque.

Q: How does this affect user group bookings such as leagues and tournaments?

A: All immediate user group bookings are cancelled. The RRC team will be reaching out to these leagues with more information. Refunds can be requested through MacDonald Island Park Guest Services at 780-791-0070, Anzac Recreation Centre Guest Services at 780-793-6900, and Conklin Multiplex Guest Services 780-793-6970 in the form of a cheque.

Q: I purchased a ticket to an RRC event, what should I do?

A: Ticketing for all RRC events has been paused. Should an event be postponed or cancelled you will be contacted by the MacDonald Island Park Box Office with more information.
