(Fort McMurray, AB, September 18, 2017) - Hundreds of participants enjoyed a new route while celebrating the fifth annual 2017 Fort McMurray Half Marathon on Sunday. The Fort McMurray Half Marathon is a partnership between the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) and the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo (RRC).

“We are so grateful for the support from our partners, our volunteers, the community and of course our participants over the past five years,” said Kelsey Stefanizyn, Fort McMurray Half Marathon Organizing Committee Event Chair and Sales and Events Senior Manager of the RRC. “This year it seemed only fitting to introduce a new route that took participants through the TOTAL Aboriginal Interpretive Trail, officially opened one year ago this month, across the river and through part of the amazing trail system on the north side of Fort McMurray. From the very beginning five years ago, the Fort McMurray Half Marathon has been about providing a fantastic experience for our participants, and this year we celebrated five years of great running through a new route for a fresh and exciting experience.”

The Fort McMurray Half Marathon includes a Half Marathon, 10 km, 5 km and 3 km races and a Kid’s Fun Run presented by Inter Pipeline. The marathon sees strong support annually, with hundreds of community members participating in the event since the inaugural half marathon in 2013.
