(Fort McMurray, August 22, 2018) - The Kirschner Family Community Art Gallery at MacDonald Island Park opens a new season with an exhibition by Russian artist Katerina Petukhova. The exhibit titled Nostalgia is inspired by our life, love and stories we believe in. This exhibition consists of several series of artworks performed in various techniques: oil painting, watercolor, pastel and sculpture.

“We are delighted to have the opportunity to showcase the work of a talented local artist,” says Ana Maria Mendez, Manager of Arts & Culture, Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo. “The gallery gives us the opportunity to provide a space for local artists to showcase their work to the community, and we are very pleased to welcome Katerina for her first solo exhibition in Canada”.

Katerina Petuhova is a local artist originally from Saint-Petersburg, a city referred to as the cultural capital of Russia. Katerina’s passion for the arts began at the age of six when she visited an art studio for the first time. Katerina continued her education in college eventually earning a Master of Arts degree with a major in Set Design at the Saint Petersburg State Institute of Theatre Arts. Katerina has participated in several exhibitions across Russia and Europe.

“Nostalgia is an unreal world inspired by reality, interpretation of events and places through the prism of joy and light,” says artist Katerina Petukhova. “This is my first exhibition in Canada and I’m very grateful for the support of the Kirschner Family Community Art Gallery.”

The Opening Reception for the Nostalgia exhibition takes place at 7 p.m. on August 22 at the Kirschner Family Community Art Gallery located in the Suncor Community Leisure Centre at MacDonald Island Park. Light refreshments will be served and all community members are invited to attend. The Nostalgia exhibition will be available for viewing until September 20.
