The Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo (RRC) Board of Directors has voted to approve a shared service model in which the RRC will share services with the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) in three areas: Human Resources, Communications and Safety.

In January 2018, RMWB Council approved the 2018-2021 Strategic Plan which includes a commitment to the exploration of shared services (Responsible Government, #1b). In addition, the 2018-2021 Strategic Plan includes a commitment to fiscal responsibility (Responsible Government, #1a).

In February, during the 2018 budgeting process, RMWB Council, as the sole stakeholder in the RRC, approved a motion to direct RMWB Administration to explore shared services with the RRC. The RRC Board and administration have worked with the RMWB to develop a mutually acceptable shared service model. Through this approved model, the RMWB will provide Human Resources, Communications and Safety services to the RRC.

“The RRC is committed to meeting our vision of making a positive difference each day in the communities we serve,” said Bruno Francoeur, Chair of the RRC Board of Directors. “We are also committed to fiscal responsibility and are pleased to approve this new partnership model with the RMWB which will see a reduction in duplication of services, allowing us to maximize cost efficiency and retain focus on delivering our mandate.”

(Fort McMurray, AB, June 1, 2018) - The RRC operates MacDonald Island Park (including the Suncor Community Leisure Centre, Shell Place and Miskanaw Golf Club) and the Anzac Recreation Centre, as well as provides lifeguarding services to the Sonny Flett Aquatic Centre in Fort Chipewyan.
