Community invited to free Canada Day events at MacDonald Island Park on June 30 and July 1
(Fort McMurray, May 18, 2023) – The Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo community is invited to MacDonald Island Park on June 30 and July 1 to participate in a variety of free activities to mark Canada Day. Events include a free family-friendly concert and the Syncrude Fireworks on June 30 followed by a day of fun family-focused activities on July 1.
June 30 – Free community concert and Syncrude Fireworks at SMS Equipment Stadium
· On June 30, Canada Day activities kick off at 6:00 pm with a free, family-friendly evening of live entertainment. SMS Equipment Stadium at Shell Place will welcome an exciting line up of performers:
o Mychela – Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo performing artist Mychela has shared the stage with acts including Julian Austin, Road Hammers, Lonestar, Washboard Union, Prairie States, Aaron Lines, Harlequin, Nazareth, Aaron Pritchett, and the late Shane Yellowbird.
o Sykamore - Sykamore’s songwriting is equal parts country and pop, mixing intimate reflection and empathetic storytelling with instantly memorable hooks and sing-along choruses.
o Gord Bamford – Multiple CMA and CCMA award winner Gord Bamford stays true to the country sound that has helped define his decorated career.
· Gates for the free concert open at 6:00 pm, with the first performer taking the stage at 7:00 pm. Concession and beer sales will be available. No tickets are required to attend and the event is open to all community members for free.
· The evening will conclude at 11:00 pm with the Canada Day Syncrude Fireworks. Suggested on-Island viewing for the fireworks is inside SMS Equipment Stadium.
July 1 – Free Family-Fun Activities at SMS Equipment Stadium
· On July 1, SMS Equipment Stadium will host the traditional free Canada Day family fun activities from Noon to 5:00 pm (following the Canada Day Parade).
· A full list of activities will be provided closer to July 1.
