Biological Burgeon art exhibition opening at the Kirschner Family Community Art Gallery
(Fort McMurray, August 28, 2019) The Kirschner Family Community Art Gallery at MacDonald Island Park is pleased to present to the community a new exhibition by local artist Andrea Brasch, also known as Andy M, named Biological Burgeon.
Biological Burgeon features hand sculpted art using ceramic or porcelain clay, sometimes featuring recycled glass to create dimension and the illusion of water, some pieces are glazed and others are hand painted.
“The last 24 months of my life have been the most difficult I've ever faced, as I went through my divorce after a decade long relationship,” says Andrea Brasch. “I lost everything including my mind at times, and my art was the only thing that kept me grounded and focused. I feel that this project shows the physical progression of my metamorphosis into my new self. From emotional tears of empty sadness, to my ultimate joy and love for myself and life again.”
Born in Kitchener-Waterloo Ontario, Andrea later perused a Fine Art Degree from Georgian College in Barrie Ontario. After completing her degree she apprenticed under Brent Harding for a year making fused glass dinnerware, exploring with the medium to make her own creations. While living in Ontario she had some great opportunities to create commissioned pieces. Vale Canada Limited, a subsidiary of a Brazilian mining company, commissioned 127 pieces to hang in their head offices in the Royal Bank Building downtown Toronto. She also painted multiple large scale images of Heath Ledger as the Joker which hung at the premiere of The Dark Knight.
In 2009 she moved to Fort McMurray, and joined the Wood Buffalo Artist Forum that was responsible for the opening of the Kirschner Family Community Art Gallery at the Suncor Community Leisure Centre. Andrea is currently on the board of the Fort McMurray Potters Guild and started to explore her current body of work by combining ceramics with her knowledge of fused glass. Her focus is on making nature inspired multidimensional pieces that encourage the viewer to move through them and explore their own imagination
The Opening Reception for Biological Burgeon takes place at 6 p.m. on September 13 at the Kirschner Family Community Art Gallery located in the Suncor Community Leisure Centre at MacDonald Island Park. Light refreshments will be served, a cash bar will be available and all community members are invited to attend. The Biological Burgeon exhibition will be available for viewing from September 2 – October 16.
